As I mentioned in the previous post, I did my self-assessment exercise to see where I was standing with my thesis. That helped me to understand my feelings towards my project and also check its strengths and weaknesses.

Through the self-assessment exercise, I realized that I needed to shift my project focus a bit. I started feeling my project frivolous and decided to help small bands rather than help music lovers. This made me feel a bit more excited about what I am doing.

As I said at the beginning of this post, this exercise also helped me be more aware of my project’s strengths and weaknesses so far.

Weaknesses

Need more research: Since my idea is continuously changing, I need to update my research. Many things that I looked at at the beginning of the project are not relevant now. After all the changes in my idea, many new points need more research.

Giant competitors: Well, it is David vs. Goliath. It is super hard to compete with Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, et al. Since the beginning of the project, I lost count on how many ideas I had of things that Spotify was not delivering, and they started offering later.

Having to generate a lot of content: One of my project’s differentials is to generate content for bands. It can somehow limit the growth capability of the platform.

Strengths

Small and curated catalog: The service focus on offering good material and discovery. It is not your music catalog. It is your platform to help small bands and discover new music.

Niche: The potential audience might not be as big as in other streaming services, but it probably has a stronger sense of “belonging.”
Professional production for artists:

A cause: The hypothesis is that the audience will understand their responsibility to help small, less privileged bands thrive.

As my project continues to change, these weaknesses and strengths will change with it. Let’s see where it goes. :)
